In the United States, millions of borrowers may learn soon whether they could receive up to $20,000 in debt relief. This would come as part of President Joe Biden’s student loan forgiveness program. The fate of the unprecedented initiative lies with the US Supreme Court. The justices are expected to rule soon on whether to uphold or strike down the proposal, first introduced by President Biden last August. The real issue for the court is whether the executive branch can spend a half a trillion dollars without any Congressional oversight. Senator James Lankford says, “The President can’t just choose to spend billions, upon billions of tax payer dollars without going through the Congressional experience. This is not about student loans, this is what the United States Constitution says.” But Democrats say it is necessary for young people to get a good start. Others say it is not fair to all those who found ways to pay for their college education. Capitol Hill Correspondent, Erik Rosales reports.
